Crafters can have an organised space too!

There is a common misconception out there that crafters are messy, unorganised and don’t have systems to keep their belongings in order.

I think the stereotype comes from knowing the people we love that are crafters are just SO talented, they often have so many hobbies and skills. With a lot of hobbies and skills, and the ability to do these amazing things, comes with a lot of belongings.

HOWEVER, here are some common frustrations for crafters:

  1. Not being able to find what you need, when you need it

  2. Having double-ups of items because you couldn’t find what you needed, so you have to pay and replace items

  3. Not being able to do the things you love in your dedicated space because of all the belongings.

  4. With the inability to not be able to use your space because of the excess belongings, you’re not able to focus and dedicate your time to the projects you love.

  5. Road blocks when it comes to having to clear the space. It feels too overwhelming, and you don’t know where to start.

  6. Tension with those you co-live with being upset about crafting and projects spilling into shared living spaces such as kitchen tables and bench spaces.

  7. You call it organised chaos, but refer to point 1. through to 6. It’s an issue!

Here’s my top tips for reclaiming your beautiful space and get you back to doing the things you love- Crafting and making amazing projects!

  1. Knowing and understanding that decluttering is not removing and throwing out items that you  use love and need!

  2. Following a simple process - The process of taking items out of the space, cleaning the space and wiping the cupboards. Grouping all like items together, and seeing how much of what you truly own

  3. The “space” can be one drawer, one bench space or one corner at a time. I suggest starting small.

  4. Starting small, and making gradual progress is the aim. You didn’t own all of these belongings overnight – It will take longer than one session, or one day to get your space into order.

  5. Stop buying containers and storage until you de clutter and sort your items, or you will end up with container clutter
